CBA Winter Club Basketball Results 2013 Week        Sunday 28th April

With the Canterbury Wildcats hosting the second round of the WBC Championships over the weekend all grades apart from some Boys Under 17 were not played. Club Basketball returns to normal this weekend with a full schedule of games in all grades.

Deferred games

In the U17 grade a number of teams were also granted Deferments and teams are reminded that the responsibility of the team requesting the deferment are to arrange to play the catch-up game within three weeks or risk losing the game by default. This involves six Under 17 games and one MU20 game. All future deferments will have to be in line with the Match rules recently distributed.

Mid- week Women

Defending champion Halswell Red made its first appearance in the Mid-week women’s club competition recoding a solid 78-18 win over new entrant Pioneer last Wednesday evening in Cowles stadium. Halswell Red will be without the services of former Tallfern Sonja Akkerman who is playing for the Canterbury Wildcats and former team-mate Jess Grosskreutz who is playing Division one. None-the-less the team has a formidable line-up with experienced players such as Sue Beenie, Jo Mumm, Gina Papahadjis and Fionna Booth added to the Halswell stalwarts, Fi ‘Airball’ Chapman, Tui Huata-Findlay and Sandra Thomas.

Police women Carmel Gunn, a regular grade MVP, made her presence felt in her first appearance as she led her team CYA to a convincing 62-22 win over Halswell Green.

University edged out Checkers Women 38-35 in a tight battle with the students mentor, Piet Van Hasselt and coach Matt Bathurst, taking two tactical time-outs to secure victory.

A new entry, Hi-Rollers, led by Oli Nicholas, is expected to join the grade this Wednesday to make the grade into eight teams and avoid the bye.

Scorers were:

Halswell Red 78 Pioneer 18, CYA 62 (Carmel Gunn 30, Jane Lattimore 11, Briar Woodhead 10) Halswell Green 22 (Linda Massie 7), University 38 (Lisa Rodney 10) Checkers 35 (Katelin Russ 14), Royals 20 Hi-Rollers 0 by default.
