TUMU ITM HBSS Senior Results
With trophies to play for the teams put on their best efforts making the FINALS night for ITM TUMU Secondary School Basketball exciting to watch.
Four Trophies were claimed at Centennial Hall: The first in the Div 2 A grade Mens between underdogs TKKMONK and Lindisfarne A. TKKMONK were pipped on the final basket by the Lindisfarne boys who kept their heads and won 61 - 60 just before the final buzzer.
Div 2 A Grade Women was a similar story with Iona College (unbeaten all season) defeating closest rivals William Colenso Girls 35-34 at the full time buzzer.
Div 2 Premier Mens Grade a a tussle between Napier Boys Junior A team and Tamatea's Senior Boys. The first quarter finished at even scores; 18 each and NBHS edged out Tamatea by one basket at half time (40-38), but then pulled away in the third quarter to lead by 8 points (60-52) going into the final 10 minutes. This lead was enough and the jubilant juniors won 74 - 65 at the final buzzer.
On the main court in the Div 1 Mens Final we saw an interesting tussle between the Hastings Boys Senior B team and their Junior As. This match too was closely fought with the senior team leading until the final quarter (50 - 42 at the end of the third) thanks to a healthy start in the first quarter (17 - 8 ); but the youngsters were not about to give up easily and found their stride in the fourth pulling back the score and evenly defeating their senior counterparts 64 - 62 at the final buzzer.
