Nelson Giants Hold Off a Fast Closing HBS Bank Hawks

Phill Jones led the Giants with 25 points, as they held off the Hawks who came back from an 18 point deficit to tie the game at 86 all with 31 seconds to go.

The visitors had a chance to take the lead with a three by Paora Winitana, but it did not fall, Pete Campbell knocking in both free throws to make it a two possession ball game.

Hawks were unable to move closer, as Nelson rallied on defense to seal the win, bringing their record to six wins and seven losses, which moves them to fifth spot.

Campbell was the next best scorer to Jones with 15, while Josh Bloxham again stepped up with 13 points.

Winitana led the Hawks with 22 points, while off the bench Morgan Natanahira added 14 points without missing a shot.

Giants will be pleased to get the win, specially cause they did it without Mika Vukona.
