The umpire training session on Tuesday night was more of a reintroduction session for returning umpires and to introduce our new umpires to the training group. With over 60 umpires from all over Brisbane and many parents also attending it was good to see and the feeling amongst the coaches is that this group will go well for season 2011.
The night touched more on the expectations and some administration issues which our umpires needing to know as well as advising of how to access training schedules etc.
The group was also told the the hard work begins now. Simon Devine (Umpire Development Officer AFLBJ and AFLQ) told us "The next 6 weeks for the group is going to be very hard for them, Fitness is an important component of umpiring so we will be focusing a lot of time on but we will also introduce our new umpires to the laws of u11's football and reintroduce our 2010 group to the laws of youth football."
For any other people who are interested in taking up umpiring please feel free to view the AFL Brisbane Juniors Umpires information or for further information contact Simon Devine simond@aflq.com.au
