West Juniors have produced a plethora of Milestones this year in the Under 14's with Oliver Allbutt playing 150 games, Thomas Vari, Sam Mulherin, Hamish Slater, Oliver Brodie-Davis all playing 100 games and Eley Witane and Jack Sharples reaching 50 games.
Oliver (Ovey) started when he was 6 in playing for the club in the under 8's. Ovey is a great little player often playing well above his weight. He is small in stature but big of heart possessing good hands, good kicking skills and is very difficult to catch. Ovey often played up an age division to help other teams.
Thomas started in the under 8's and has developed into a great defender and is used a lot in the backline where his skill level has improved out of sight. He is not frightened to stick his head and body into a hotly contested ruck and often comes out the winner.
Sam (Mulga) started in the Under 9's and showed good skills from the start. He has great hands, a long and accurate kick and can take a good mark. Sam has been used across the field from Ruckman to Fullback. This year he has made great gains playing out of Centre Half Back.
Hamish joined in the Under 9's. Hamish can be a tenacious defender often charging out of Fullback to close down an attacking raid. He is strong when in the Forwards and has potted a few goals this year.
Oliver (OBD) has developed into the teams biggest kicker. He generally plays at Full Forward. The boys really look for him as they attack our goal. OBD is tall and able to get above the opposition to snatch a mark and pot a goal from the 50 metre mark. Whilst not the fastest on the field he knows how to get himself into the right spot consistently. OBD joined the club in the Under 9's.
Eley joined us in the Under 12's. He was new to the game but quickly showed he wanted to learn. He is fast and has developed a good kick. He seems to get himself into the right spot on most occasions and has a lot of possessions. Eley has played up a grade a few times this year and the faster footie has helped him develop.
Jack joined us in the Under 11's. Jack played a lot of Rugby up to that time and his tackling in the early days was that of the other code. He is tough, fast and a great defender. He plays out of the centres a lot and is good at getting the ball away to a running support.
