NEW COMMUNITY JUNIOR AFL CLUB TO HIT THE GAP
The Gap is the latest area in Brisbane to form a new team in the AFL Brisbane Juniors competition for 2009 courtesy of a joint Brisbane Lions and AFL Queensland local initiative.
The Lions and AFL Queensland developed a proposal two years ago to form six new junior clubs across South-East Brisbane.
The initiative targeted areas in Brisbane that would most benefit from the development of a new junior club.
After a thorough investigation into the Brisbane West Region, Hilder Road State School in The Gap was selected as the home of the new team which is still yet to decide on an appropriate mascot and guernsey design.
The newly formed junior club has instead invited all children from Prep to Grade Four from four local primary schools to enter a competition to design their own club guernsey, select a team name and create a club mascot.
The Lions will assist the new junior club with training equipment while all registered players will also receive a Lions supporter pack which includes a participation card that allows them free-of-charge entry to games at the Gabba when accompanied by an adult.
Budding junior footballers from The Gap are invited to attend a âCome and Playâ day at the new club on the following date:
The Gap Come and Try Day
When: Sunday 30 November 2008
Where: Hilder Road State School
Cnr Hilder Road & Kaloma Road, The Gap
Time: Registration from 9:45am
What: Skills, fun activities, real AFL games and BBQ at the end.
Note: The winner of the mascot, guernsey and team name competition will be announced at The Gapâs Come and Try day
