A new board, new regulations and a new name signal a brand new era in northern suburbs football.
The Northern Football League was born last night, replacing the Diamond Valley Football League. It takes over control of 26 senior clubs and 24 junior clubs.
The final phase of AFL Victoria's interim administration of the former Diamond Valley Football league was completed on Monday night at a Special General Meeting.
Key outcomes included:
- A new name - the Northern Football League. The new name better encompasses the breadth of the northern region that includes municipalities Banyule, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Darebin.
- New constitution and by laws agreed to address issues relating to corporate governance, fiscal control, strategic direction and structure of the league. The eight junior clubs who are not aligned with a senior club now have a voice.
- A new seven member board was independently elected, replacing the old delegate system. The board features a broad cross-section of skills and experience including financial management and marketing.
- Frank Rosbrook is the new chairman. Frank brings to the new League a wealth of business experience from the financial sector, supplemented with his experience as a player, coach and administrator at Community Football level. Frank is also a past Chairman of the Melbourne Phoenix in the National Netball league.
The appointment of a new General Manager is expected to occur in the coming week.
