UNDER 14 CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007

Yet another successful campaign for the Girls and Boys Victorian teams competing at the 2007 Junior National Club Championships.  Completing another fantastic year for Victoria at the Junior National Tournaments.

2007 National U14 Girls Club Championships were held at the Southern Cross Stadium, Tuggeranong from Monday 1st October through Saturday 6th October.

Victoria had six teams competing from a total of 24 teams at the National Tournament and finished in as follows.

Bulleen (1st)
Melbourne (5th)
Dandenong (6th)
Knox (12th)
Bendigo (14th)
Diamond Valley (15th)

Game 84 Bulleen 60 v Sturt 48
In a game with the atmosphere of a WNBL Grand Final and played with the same intensity, the final of the Championships between Bulleen and Sturt was a memorable game. In the first quarter honours were fairly even with teams exchanging baskets and at the break, scores were dead even. Unfortunately for Sturt, they lost Alex Wilson early in the 2nd after she had scored 10 points in the 1st quarter. This left Sturt without one of their best players and left the door open for Bulleen. Bulleen capitalised on this and went 19 to 10 scoring spree with Billie Lucas hitting 11. This gave Bulleen a 9 point lead at the break. For most of the 2nd half, Sturt tried to eat away at this lead but was unable to gain ascendancy. In the end Bulleen pulled away and ran out worthy winners. For Bulleen Billie Lucas finished with 33 and for Sturt Alex Wilson scored 10.

2007 National U14 Boys Club Championships Sea FM Stadium, QLD Monday 1st October through Saturday 6th October.  Victoria had 4 of 20 teams competing.  With fantastic results for all the Victorian teams.  The teams finished as follows.

Knox (1st)
Eltham (2nd)
Keilor (3rd)
Ballarat (12th)

Knox Raiders 81 def. Eltham Wildcats 67
This game was an absolute cracker.  The Raiders got the edge in each quarter, to bring home gold to the Knox basketball community.  600 spectators enjoyed this one, with the noise a sign of an exciting game.  Full credit to Eltham who have played in the true spirit of the game all week, with the team boasting a very promising roster.  A game winning 30pts went to Mockiewicz.

Keilor Thunder 86 def. Sturt Sabres 71
The Bronze Medal game was an absolute ripper, with Keilor taking an early lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Joel Leebody had a great game for Keilor, taking a large haul of 34 pts. Sturt's best performer was Sam Daly, with an impressive 18 pts.

Congratulations for the success of all the teams representing Victoria at the 2007 National Junior Club Championships.
