Local football rivals Dingley and Heatherton faced off with a different shaped ball on Saturday, in the SFL’s very first Netball Grand Final.
Dingley went in to the match as hot favourite having not dropped a game all year, but in a tightly fought, see sawing match, Heatherton produced the boil-over to win the match 31 to 27.
The best on court medal went to Molly Kibel from Heatherton, who at just 17 years of age played a pivotal role in attack, controlling traffic and setting up the feed to the Heatherton shooters.
A great crowd turned out for the Grand Final, with local MP Elizabeth Miller the guest medal presenter.
The competition, introduced for the first time in 2012, has been a huge success for the Southern Football League, with the League looking to grow the competition to two divisions next year.
Heatherton will be presented with the Premiership Cup at the SFL Awards Night on October 5 (see the SFL website (www.sfl.com.au) for full details). The Best & Fairest player for the competition will also be announced on this night.
