Solomon Islands Youth Team to the recent Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia, Samoa which concludes last week returned home yesterday with a bronze medal. The Team comprises of five different sports namely; Athletics, Boxing, Tennis, Swimming and Weightlifting.
Upon arrival, team Manageress to the Youth Games, Mrs Fujiyama said the team was very proud to represent the country at the Youth Games despite the fact that some of the youths it was their first outing in any regional or international sport event. The Team Manageress also thanked the Commonwealth Youth Games Organising Committee and the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands for making the trip possible.
Young Weightlifter and bronze medalist, Arina Kalibiu said the competition was tough because it was attended by alot of countries with better training facilities and who have exposed to a lot of competitions prior to the game but she was proud and humbled to snatch a bronze medal for the country at the Youth Games. She further stressed that she had learned alot from the games that will help her improve.
The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands Congratulates Ms Kalibiu and the Team upon arrival for a fine achievement and wish all the athletes good training for future games.
