Challenging start for Tony Competing in one of the first events of the
Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Tony Lomo of the Solomon Islands came up
against the strong challenge of Razak Abugiri of Ghana but was
unfortunately defeated. Fresh from the excitement of the Opening Ceremony
the night before, Tony was happy with his performance: "It's going well - I
did well. I have to stick to the many rules that keep changing, but I tried
my best and did good." Tony previously competed in the London 2012
Olympics, where he was defeated in the third round. Comparing the
Commonwealth Games to the Olympics, Tony acknowledges the level of
competition: "It's very tough for me too, but it's good. It's the second
level of the sport - Commonwealths then Olympic level." For the rest of the
Games, Tony is looking forward to watching the rest of his fellow athletes
in his category, and then will take the time to watch other sports. After
the games, Tony is looking forward to competing in Russia then potentially
training in Australia, to develop further his competition skills. Tony
competed in the white judogi. .Ends... This article was produced by Dan O'Hara of The Reporters’
