Team Palau is scheduled to depart Palau on Monday, 28 July 2008 where they will take a short flight to Guam and connect on a direct flight to Manila, Philippines. There they will have an overnight stop and continue the following day and catch their flight to Beijing, arriving on Wednesday, 30 July at 5:50 p.m. local time.
The Team consists of five athletes, four coaches, three team officials; the team will be accompanied by the President of the Palau National Olympic Committee, Mr. Frank Kyota and Secretary General Baklai Temengil. The Team will be headed by Mr. Bill Keldermans, Vice President of Palau NOC and Chef de Mission; Kazuki Topps Sungino, Olympic Attache and Jubilee Kuartei, Team Journalist. The Team is comprised two members of the Athletics Team: Peoria Koshiba and Jesse Tamangrow, both competing in the 100m dash headed by Sngebard Delong-Team Coach and Ann Lund-Team Manager; one member of the Swimming Team: Amber Sikosang Yobech, who will be competing in the 50m freestyle event and coach Tina Shima; the two members of the Wrestling Team are Elgin Elwais, contender in the 55kg freestyle and greco-roman classes and Florian Skilang Temengil, contnder in the 120kg freestyle and greco-roman classes.
Two additional members of the Team were selected to participate in the Olympic Youth Camp held in conjunction with the Olympic Games. Delegates to the Youth Camp include Jamie Bassett and Itpik Franz. These two young adults were selected based on their grade point, character, involvement in sports programs, and community and school related programs. The Youth Camp is an excellent opportunity to learn about different cultures and the Olympic Movement. They will be involved in various aspects of the Games such as the opening and closing ceremonies; the Olympic Torch relay; forums and workshops; series of courses on Chinese culture and many other Olympic related activities.
