Thomas Henderson had to pull out of his ocean swimming event with an injury, Okotai rubbed shoulders in the pool with some of the best swimmers in the world.
Petero Okotai competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke where he came first in his heat and set a personal best time of 32:23.
The swimming meet was a great experience for the both local athletes. Okotai is now looking forward to more international swim meets including the Australian championships in March and the Dubai World Champs in December next year. He also hopes that more young swimmers will come through by then. Okotai admits that it can be a lonely sport and having a team to train and travel with, would certainly be encouraging. For now Okotai is putting his feet up and recovering from a cold that plagued him during the Rome championships. Meanwhile Henderson will be returning to the Cook Island to represent us in the triathlon at the Pacific Mini Games 2009.
CISNOC would like to acknowledge Turtles and Speedo for supporting our local boys at the championships. We would also like to thank Matariki Wilson for the great news coverage of the event.
