A great team effort from the defence, mid court and shooting circle has now seen the Cook Islands U21 team play off for the 5th and 6th place in the World Youth Netball Championship 2009.
After 2 losses in a row, the team were determined to change that faith. A whole new team took the court with South Africa and triph with a 55 - 48 win. Coach Teresa Tairi was proud of the her girls and commented to Cook Islands News "That's exactly what this team can do" "This was a new day, a new game and the girls brought their own style".
Defenders, Aila Pera and Elenor Taputu-Crombie played at 110% to get that ball down to the shooting circle. Mid-court, Melissa Pittman and her team capitalised on the turnovers taken from the South Africans by the Cooks defence and delivered it to their shooter, Tutai Nooroa and Alana Smith who then finished the those opportunities.
Well done girls, good luck for your next game. The Cook Islands will take on Malawi tommorow 1:30pm at the Telecom Sports Stadium.
Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee would like acknowledge Cook Islands News for effort of delivering the great news to the Cook Islands.
