International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach is confident that the 2016 Rio Olympics which starts in a week’s time, will be a success.
“We will make it,” said a confident Bach while addressing Chef de Missions during a morning briefing at the Games Village.
The IOC President flew into Rio yesterday morning and went straight to the Games Village to see first-hand the work being done to have the village ready for the Games.
Various teams led by Australia stayed away from the village for a couple of days complaining that the accommodation was still in a mess.
The IOC President thanked all the nations for their understanding but at the same time called on the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games to have the village ready by Friday.
“We must work together. You have the IOC members at your disposal. This games will be a great success,” said Bach.
He inspected the village and also had breakfast at the main dining hall.
The IOC President also revealed he also has a room in the Games Village to experience for himself what the athletes are going through.
As off lastnight, there were 129 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the village.
Apart from Australia and New Zealand, eight Pacific nations- Cook islands, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Vanuatu Chef de Missions in the village.
The full compliments of these teams are expected on the weekend.
