The 16 strong team of Team Cook Islands came to the games for the first time with one of the smallest teams ever sent to the Pacific Games, with 3 sports and 7 athletes, alot was at stake.
Following the Opening Ceremony, Cooks was first out on the field to compete in Athletics with Tereapii Tapoki throwing in the Discus, and with a throw of 48.48m won the first medal for the Cook Islands, and that be a Gold medal. Medals continued to come in from Athletics Patricia Taea in the 200m winning silver and setting a National Record, Tereapii again winning sivler in the Shot Put. Luisa Peters with her 3 silver medals in Weightlifting and setting a PB at the same time.
Sailing every day in Liku, the sailors proved to better than what the participating countries thought, Teau McKinzie winning all her races and winning another gold for Cook Islands. The combination of Taua and Junior in the Mens Laser Team just missing out on a gold due to a count back as they were draw with New Caledonia, Taua and Junior also picking up medals in the Individual Mens Laser, Taua silver and Junior Bronze.
All up Team Cook Islands picked up a total of 10 medals, 2 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze.
7 athletes and 10 medals, a great achievement not only for Team Cook Islands but for all Cook Islands.
