National sailors Taua Elisa and Junior Charlie were the first of the Team Cook Islands athletes at the Wallis and Futuna Games to get their game face on and compete.
The pair sailed individually in the men’s laser standard division yesterday and their efforts combined will determine their team results.
The pair will race over 12 races while their female counterpart Teau McKenzie, who will race in the women’s laser radial will sail in her first of 10 races on Wednesday September 4.
The team will sail over the full two week of the regional sporting event with real medal prospects.
Field athlete Tereapii Tapoki will compete in her second event of the shot put on Friday September 6 after her discus competition yesterday.
Alex Beddoes will compete in his specialist 800m race today along with Patricia Taea who will race in the open women’s 100m sprints.
Beddoes will then race the men’s 1500m event on Thursday and the next day – Taea and Tapoki return to the competition field.
Taea will race in the open women’s 200m and Tapoki will compete in shot put.
Sole female weightlifter Luisa Peters is expected to lift in the women’s 75kg plus category on Thursday.
