Background
In the past when 2 Victorians have fenced off in DE's it has been the accepted practice that coaches will step aside to level the playing field. However, with more personal coaches travelling to Aged Group National Tournaments, rather than just a Team Coach, it was requested that the Fencing Victoria Executive look again at this practice.
Protocol
The FV Executive’s review decided that in the event that both Victorian’s in the bout have Coaches present, that it is acceptable for the coaches to coach during a DE & final/finals bouts where Victorian are up against Victorians. However, if one fencer does not have a personal coach and the Team Coach, or another coach, acceptable to the athlete, cannot be found, then both fencers should fence without the help of coaching, to give a level playing field.
An exeption in U20’s may be made, if the fencer is over 18 and states to the Team Manager that they do not need a coach, but that they are happy for the other fencer to have their coach present, then the Team Manager will make a decision which will be based on the circumstances and experience of the fencer in question.
