1) There is a new points trophy for the U15 National Championships to be called the Frank Bartilillo Trophy. This completes the set of points trophies awarded at National championships at all levels and recognises a great fencer.
2) The AFF will be reconstituted as a company limited by guarantee. This moves the regulatory powers from Consumer Affairs (which look after Incorporated Associations) to ASIC (which look after Companies). This will take several weeks and a further Special General Meeting will take place (tentatively) on 26 July to confirm the initial directors, and set a start date for the term of Directors. This is necessary, as the new entity is governed by a new constitution, which was passed unanimously at the AGM. This changes the powers of the Executive, sets limits on terms, and conflicts of interest, in holding state positions as well as national ones. (AFTER the initial directors term has expired it must be stressed) It will begin the process of half the directors changing each Olympic cycle.
3) Fees for OPEN events at National circuit and championships, will be increased by $20. This is to cover the importation of an FIE 3-weapon referee, who will preside over semi final and final bouts. This referee will also provide training and mentoring to local referees by running workshops at the start and end of each day. Referees and fencers are welcome to attend. Also, the AFF will pay 6-8 referees per day in the same way that is being done for Cadet and Junior Nationals. This change will take effect from AFC#3 in Melbourne this year.
4) In the new selection policy which was recently passed by Mail Ballot, there is the allocation of multiplied ranking points to "designated tours" organised by the National Weapon Coach(es).
The AFF Executive announced that there will be NO such designated tours for OPEN category events (and hence no bonus ranking points) during the Olympic qualifying year, making the playing field level. Tours may well be run prior to the end of the Olympic qualifying period, but they will not attract the extra points for ranking purposes. Tours run for U23, Junior and younger categories may also be organised and if so, be assessed for bonus ranking points as indicated in the new selection policy.
