A new interactive online video tool provided to us by the Project Manager, Policy & Sector Development of
Sport and Recreation Victoria, aims to bring about awareness of the problem of sexual harassment and abuse in competitive sport and guide athletes, coaches and sports federations and associations, on what they can do to stop these behaviours. Homophobia, sexual abuse and sexual harassment – make these problems hard to ignore. This tool demonstrates the negative effects that sexual harassment and abuse has on athletes, coaches and sport as a whole.
Click on athletes to hear their stories, follow the guide to identify the signs and steps to help reduce risk. “Sexual Harassment & Abuse in Sport” can be watched here:
http://sha.olympic.org/ and is supported in various languages.
http://sha.olympic.org/home.html
Parents/Carers of young athletes should view this with their children, so that they can both be aware of, and discuss, the issues.
