Passing of a Fencing Master
It is with great sadness that Fencing Victoria informs members that Maitre
Harry Sommerville passed away on Saturday, 9 October 2010. Harry was well-known to Australian and Victorian fencing for many years, as an Olympic representative (Tokyo 1964 Sabre) as well as over many decades as a
coach, developing elite athletes and coaches alike.
Harry's contribution to
fencing was enormous and his legacy remains strong in the Victorian fencing
community through many fencers and coaches, and their students in turn.
Fencing Victoria extends its sincere condolences to Harry's family.
A gathering will be held on Thursday, 14 October at the State Fencing Centre, 1st Floor, 204-206 Arden St, North Melbourne at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate Harry's memory with family and friends.
