Victorian Code
of Conduct for Community Sport
The State
Government has released a Victorian Code of Conduct for Community Sport. Fencing
Victoria embraces and enforces the guidelines detailed in the
Code.
The Code of
Conduct complements FV’s existing Codes of Conduct which apply to spectators,
coaches, parents, players, administrators and clubs.
Sports
Minister James Merlino and Minister for the Respect Agenda Justin Madden
recently joined a team of high-profile Ambassadors to launch the latest
component of the Victorian Code of Conduct for Community
Sport.
“Victorians
love their sport and our local sports clubs are the heart and soul of our
communities, ensuring families are strong, happy, healthy and active,” Mr
Merlino said.
“The
overwhelming majority of Victorian clubs do the right thing, but this new Code
of Conduct reinforces the message to a minority of players, spectators, coaches
or club officials that their bad behaviour, abuse and ugly parent syndrome has
no place in sport.”
Under the Code
of Conduct, which was developed with Victoria’s peak sporting associations,
breaches will include:
- Violent,
abusive behaviour or vilification of any kind towards another person;
- Discrimination
against another person based on their age, gender, sexual orientation, race,
culture, religion or any other irrelevant personal characteristic;
- Sexual
harassment or intimidation of another person;
- Victimisation
of another person for exercising their rights through the Code; and
- A failure to
maintain a safe environment.
-
State Sporting
Associations and clubs will now have the responsibility of adhering to and
enforcing the Code through sport specific penalties.
Associations
and clubs that don’t address breaches of the Code will not be eligible for
funding from Sport and Recreation Victoria and will run the risk of losing any
existing funding.
