As with most of Melbourne, the State Fencing Centre suffered some weather damage at the weekend (Saturday 6 March). As a safety measure, sabre squad training for Monday 8 March was cancelled.
We have now made an assessment of the effects of the storm.
We are happy to report that from Tuesday 9 March, all scheduled squad and competition activities will continue uninterrupted. Although other parts of the Arden Street facility (such as the basketball stadium and the North Melbourne Football Club offices) suffered severe damage, the fencing facility did not. As you make your way to and from the Centre for normal fencing activities, please be mindful that others will be undertaking clean-up activities outside the Centre.
Fencing Victoria would like to thank all of the fencers and parents who were present at the Centre on Saturday afternoon, and acted quickly to reduce (and in most cases, avoid) potential damage to our facility.
For those interested, we have some photos of the Centre during the storm, and will be posting those on the website in the days ahead.
