QF Preview: Melbourne v Forestville Men

After winning the Big V Championship title last weekend, the Melbourne Tigers are through to the ABA Finals, hosting South Australia's Forestville Eagles this Saturday night in the quarter finals.

The team will have a bumper basketball weekend, as the majority of the Big V team are currently in Adelaide to play the 36ers for another NBL pre-season match on Friday night, before heading back to Melbourne to play in the ABA final on Saturday night.

The NBL team defeated the 36ers in their first pre-season clash on Wednesday night, and are looking to continue their pre-season confidence in the second game being played in regional Wyalla.

The Big V team still has their sights firmly set on the ABA title, as head coach Al Westover gives us an insight into the game preparations for this weekend's final...

"When I look back on the Big V season that was, I can't help but be overwhelmed with pride for our young group of talented Australian players.

We've come a long, long way since that first game out at Dandenong when we got beaten by 35 on their home court, and continued on to start the season with a 1-3 record.

Since then, the boys have been working extremely hard, four days a week and have gotten better each and every week - the one thing I asked of them at the start of the season.

We've had some troubles with injuries and sickness, and have received some luck in some close games but all that matters is at the end of the season we finished up as Big V Champions for the first team in club history.

But now the Big V is over, and the unknown waters of the ABA Nationals looms ahead of us for the next two weeks.

After beating Sandringham in the Grand Final, we were rewarded by being matched up with the second best team in South Australia.

Unfortunately, the best team lost on the buzzer in the Grand Final and was sent to the Veneto Club instead.

It'll be a huge match-up - the best from the Big V and the best from South Australia.

Let's make it 21 in a row and go further into those unknown waters."
