Bearcat Women and Warrior Men take out Pre-Season Tournament
West Adelaide's women and Woodville's men were the winners of the Central ABL Pre-Season Tournament, held at Pasadena last weekend.
Al Green's Woodville team won the men's grand final, defeating Southern 46-36 after a weekend which provided some optimism for fans of the Warriors and Tigers, who finished 6th and 10th respectively in 2011.
Woodville's weekend included victories over South Adelaide, Sturt and Eastern prior to the Grand Final, while Southern defeated Norwood, Central Districts and West Adelaide.
The translation of pre-season results to the regular season always varies from club to club. Southern and Woodville's lineups featured new imports Tyler Tanis and Puff Summers, and while some other teams that competed suited lists that were close to finalised, Forestville and North Adelaide did not feature in the tournament, with both expected to fare well this season.
In the women's field, West Adelaide was awarded the pre-season trophy after defeating Woodville, South Adelaide, Eastern and Southern. West Adelaide suited Narelle van Leuven (formerly Lindsay) who is playing her first Central ABL season since 2006, but were without Lisa Ackroyd who will join the Bearcats from Norwood.
A new look Woodville finished a close second, defeating Southern South Adelaide and Eastern.
