Feathers Fly at Hillcrest

Great Expectations

In the Women’s game at the early timeslot we saw yet another entertaining game between two teams, where the North women had everything to gain from winning – a potential finals berth.

We can’t lament the past, but one or two avoidable losses earlier in the season put the women under the pump to grab fifth place, pending other results.

In the end though, Jo Hill had a quiet night, by her standards, and the Lady Rockets fell two points short at the end of the night.  Well done to the Forestville girls who held their nerve, despite losing Carla Borrego in the third quarter.

We do participate in a wonderful sport where we can see Olympians compete with international netballers and future champions, for just $6 entry fee.

Hard Times

In another Dickensism the fifth placed Rockets beat the Eagles for the second time this season.

Led by Tommy Rowe, the Rockets led for most of the game and just seemed to be able to keep their nose in front, in another cracker-jack game, which was a credit to all.

Without “lighting up” ex-Rocket Brad Sullivan was second top scorer to Rashad Tucker, who continues to impress in our league.   Also impressive, given limited game experience was Majok Deng.

Rockets that did well, other than their captain, were “find of the year” Matt Lycett and Brandon Brine, but they were eclipsed by the three pointer from Brett Collins from the back court on half-time!

This was another good advertisement for our game from the amphitheatre of Hillcrest, and a credit to both teams.
