Foley Leads Flames to Emphatic Win Over Sabres

Anticipation has been building for the game at Mars Stadium last night as the Norwood Flames hosted rivals Sturt in a top of the table clash.

Predicted to be tight between premiership contenders, the game, although hard fought, was easily won by the Flames in the end as they ran out 34-point victors to retain their unbeaten record for the season.

The Flames were dominant from the beginning creating great scoring options, which they used to their advantage heading into the first break already 14-points in the lead.

The home side displayed stellar defence, protecting the paint to starve the Sabres from scoring despite their good movement around the key. This charge was lead by Jess Foley who finished the game recording a double-double with 24 points, 15 rebounds and an added 5 assists.

Amy Lewis and Jessica Good also contributed greatly for the victors adding 24-points and 20-points respectively to the winning tally.

Although a one sided affair Sturt tried hard but just couldn’t break through the steal defence of the Flames or capitalise on scoring opportunities.

It was clear that the Sabres are a good side but the Flames’ outfit made them look clumsy and showed that there is a clear gap between Norwood and the rest of the field.

Mention must go however to Sturt’s Molly Lewis who, after splitting open her head open in a bloody clash during the second quarter, returned to the game to stand up and try to lead her team, finishing the game with 17 points to her name.

The Flames seem only to be going from strength to strength, this win proving that they are a cut above the rest and it will take a gutsy effort for them to be beaten this season.

Norwood Flames 97 (Jess Foley 24, Amy Lewis 24, Jessica Good 20)

Sturt Sabres 63 (Molly Lewis 17, Hannah Bowley 15, Kate Gladstone 9)
