Flames Continue on their Winning Way

The Norwood Flames made it two from two over the weekend, defeating the North Adelaide Rockets 75 to 56.

Norwood’s double header weekend kicked off Friday night with a comfortable 35 point win over the Woodville Warriors and finished strongly with a 19 point win over North.

The Flames started strongly with Jess Foley continuing her form and setting up teammates for three point opportunities.

North Adelaide looked to control the paint with Jamie-Lee Peris racking up rebounds. This didn’t seem to bother the Norwood outfit however as they continued to hit field goals and went into the minor break up by 15.

The Rockets started the second quarter positively but were unable to capitalize on their shot selection.

Norwood’s Rebecca Duke looked set for a massive game until what looked like an ankle injury mid way through the second quarter ruled her out of the match.

North Adelaide saw an opportunity to strike with Duke’s height missing from the Flames lineup, but with a series of missed three-pointers, that opportunity went begging.

The Flames entered half time with a big 47-29 lead.

The third quarter started with even play between the two sides, North Adelaide starting to claw their way back into the game.

Rockets veteran Jo Hill looked to be rising on the points chart, and a comeback indeed seemed a possibility. Duke’s injury in the second quarter was starting to look like a blessing for North Adelaide, enabling them to dominate inside the paint.

Foley took it upon herself to quash any comeback thoughts though when she orchestrated a 6-0 run late in the third.

The quarter finished with both teams scoring 14 to make the score line 61-43 in favour of the Flames.

By the fourth quarter the result was not in doubt and Norwood stretched the lead to 24 before taking their foot off the gas.

Some poor ball movement from the Rockets confirmed the result and saw Norwood bench key player Foley (who was on her way to a triple double) for the remainder of the game.

A rather slow end to the game followed, as both teams were aware of the result coming and Norwood finished the game with a 19-point victory over their local rivals North Adelaide.

Norwood Flames 75 (Jess Foley 21, Jess Good 18, Cara Boothey 10)
North Adelaide Rockets 56 (Jo Hill 21, Jess Smart 11, Jamie-Lee Peris 10)
