Central ABL Bloods New Coaches

Six coaches will make their coaching debut in the 2007 Central Australian Basketball League, the draw for which was released today.

Former Olympian and Adelaide 36er, Mike McKay, will lead the North Adelaide women. McKay assisted Marc Wallis last year and also took the Rockets to the Grand Final of the 2006 Metro League. Other new coaches are Liam Flynn (Sturt Men), Justin Schueller (North Adelaide Men), Jason Bray (Woodville Men), Heath Jury (Southern Men) and Brenton Johnston (Eastern Women).

Making a return to senior coaching after a 10-year break is Damian Weeks, with Norwood's women. Weeks, a former AIS scholarship coach and current SA Metro Under 18 Women's coach, last coached Norwood at this level in 1996.

Michael Cobbing, a former men's coach at Norwood, also makes a return to the ABA, as coach of the Central Districts women.

This year's draw features a new 18 round format, in which teams play all other teams once at home and once away. The league will revert to the even playing field that existed prior to 2006, giving all teams the best possible chance of advancing to the major rounds.

The season commences with a full round of games on Saturday March 17. The Central ABL Grand Finals will be held on August 11, ABA national finals commencing on August 18.

While team rosters are far from finalised, the pre-season is well under way, with clubs competing in local and interstate matches to prepare for the upcoming season.
