North Adelaide Through to Grand Final
Sturt looked to be in control after a strong start to the first quarter, taking a 12 point lead into quarter time. However, the Sabres couldn’t back up their first quarter efforts in the second.
The Rockets came out firing in the second quarter, scoring a huge 29 points, while the Sabres had only six on the board. North Adelaide missed some shots in the first quarter but they managed to pull their shooting percentage up from 32 to 55 per cent.
Things unfortunately went from bad to worse for Sturt who only scored two points in the third quarter. Anything that could go wrong did for the Sabres, as they made some crucial mistakes. The Sabres gave up ten turnovers as the Rockets applied the pressure. North Adelaide scored 15 points building on their momentum from the second quarter.
Sturt were back to some better play in the final period and even managed to outscore the Rockets by eight points. However, they couldn’t overcome the huge lead the North Adelaide women set up in the second and third quarters. The final margin was 16 points.
North Adelaide’s Jo Hill and Jamie-Lee Peris were outstanding all game and were instrumental in their second quarter domination.
Hill had ten points to her name in the second quarter and backed it up with 11 and nine in the final two quarters to take her game total to 30 points. She also had 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Peris scored eight points in the first quarter and 11 in the second, finishing the game with 24 points to her name. She also had a game high 13 rebounds, along with three steals and an assist.
Sturt’s Amy Shaw was their highest scorer with 17 points, along with five rebounds, three steals and an assist. Hannah Bowley scored 11 points and also had five rebounds. Both women used their height and athleticism to advantage to get on the scoreboard.
Jess Smart was another strong player for the Rockets, scoring eight points. She also had four assists and two rebounds to her name.
The loss ends a strong season for the Sabres, while the Rockets will face the undefeated Norwood women in next Saturday’s Grand Final.
