South Adelaide ended Sturt’s finals campaign in a tense contest at Marion Stadium on Saturday night.

In front of a vocal home crowd, the Panthers ground their way to the 95-81 win with tough defence at crucial stages.

The decisive run came late in the third quarter, when South went on a 16-1 run to take a 66-50 lead.

Before that, the margin had not gone beyond four since the first quarter.

The Sabres made another charge in the last quarter to draw within four with five minutes to play, but Tom McKenzie (21 points) led another spurt, scoring four in a row to start the Panthers on a 10-0 run.
