Southern outscore a persistent Bearcats side

THE Southern Tigers absorbed all West Adelaide could throw at them and sent it back with some extra bite in an entertaining 95-82 victory on Saturday night.

Down eight at quarter-time the Bearcats responded in the second but when the Tigers lifted they could not follow.

That was despite the best efforts of import Dee Oldham, who was sensational in scoring 40 points in 40 minutes along with nine rebounds.

Southern ran too deep for West.

Anthony Drmic hit a team-high 40 points and pulled down eight rebounds, import Michael Nwelue added 21 points at 81 per cent from the field, while Luke Schenscher sunk a season-high 11.

The Tigers outscored the Bearcats 29-18 and capitalised on Blake Truslove’s minutes being limited due to foul trouble.

Southern scored a season-high 56 points in the paint and made 54 per cent of its shots.

The Tigers were plus-five rebounds, led by a team-high 10 by Nwelue.

Oldham was a standout for West, while Harold Ridgeway (16 points and 12 boards) and Tristan Braithwaite (12 points) did their best to pull the Bearcats across the line.

Southern’s class prevailed as the Tigers improved to 4-1 and left West reeling at 2-3 after five rounds.
