MEN

Forestville Eagles (1-0) v Sturt Sabres (1-0)

In the Match of the Round, the Forestville Eagles host the Sturt Sabres at Wayville, in the only clash featuring two Round 1 winners.

Last week, the Eagles became the first men’s club to win at the new ARC Campbelltown, upsetting Norwood 87-77. Majok Deng starred with 28 points and 15 rebounds, while Jake Rios added 22 points.

The Sabres exacted a little revenge against the side they lost to in the 2016 Grand Final, overcoming Southern 84-64. The Sabres had a balanced offensive attack, led by super-sub Jacob Rigoni’s 15 points.

The Sabres swept the Eagles 3-0 last season.

 

North Adelaide Rockets (1-0) v Norwood Flames (0-1)

The new-look North Adelaide Rockets will be seeking back-to-back wins to commence 2017, when they welcome the Norwood Flames to Hillcrest.

Last week, the Rockets blew out Woodville 85-62, behind 32 points and 19 rebounds from former Warrior Alexander Starling. With fellow star import Aric Miller providing a further 14 points, the Rockets showed their chemistry is well intact.

Despite a combined 43 points from imports Ahmad Starks and Jerrell Sanders, the Flames failed to make a winning start at their new home ground, losing to Forestville.

The Flames swept the Rockets 2-0 last season, and have a fantastic recent record at Hillcrest.

 

Southern Tigers (0-1) v South Adelaide Panthers (1-0)

The Southern Tigers will be trying to avoid initiating their premiership defence with consecutive defeats, when they play host to the South Adelaide Panthers at Morphett Vale.

Last week, the Tigers were beaten by Sturt in the Grand Final rematch, even though 36er Anthony Drmic scored a game-high 17 points. Coincidentally, the Tigers have already lost as many games this season as they did for the entirety of 2016.

In contrast, the Panthers began 2017 in fine fashion, knocking off Centrals 105-70. Shane Boal and Eian Davis combined for 53 points.

The Tigers swept the Panthers 2-0 last season.

 

West Adelaide Bearcats (1-0) v Woodville Warriors (0-1)

The West Adelaide Bearcats will look to make it two from two, when they battle the Woodville Warriors at Port Adelaide.

Last week, the Bearcats trailed Eastern by seven at half-time, but recovered to triumph 85-73. Darrius Oldham compiled 29 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors are coming off a humbling defeat to North. Alex Maiorana had a team-high 12 points.

The Warriors completed a rare sweep of the Bearcats 2-0 last season.

 

Central District Lions (0-1) v Eastern Mavericks (0-1)

The Central Districts Lions and Eastern Mavericks go head-to-head at Starplex this round, in the only fixture between two winless teams.

Last week, the Lions were out-clawed by South, despite 18 points from Ricardo Martin.

The Mavericks could not stay with West for a full four quarters, succumbing to a home defeat. Lachlan Baker came off the bench to post 17 points.

The Lions swept the Mavericks 2-0 last season.

 

 

WOMEN

Norwood Flames v Forestville Eagles

Forestville Eagles (0-1) v Sturt Sabres (1-0)

In the Match of the Round, the Forestville Eagles will be attempting to bounce back from a close loss to Norwood, when they welcome the Sturt Sabres to Wayville.

Last week, the Eagles started off slow against the Flames, and although they made multiple runs, they could not rally back to hit the front. Olivia Thompson put up 22 points and 13 rebounds.

The Sabres snuck over the line against a strong Southern team, holding on for a 61-59 victory. Hannah Stewart and Hannah Richards registered 11 points apiece.

The Eagles swept the Sabres 3-0 last season.

 

North Adelaide Rockets (1-0) v Norwood Flames (0-1)

The North Adelaide Rockets have a tough task ahead in their bid to get back to winning ways, with the Norwood Flames visiting Hillcrest.

Last week, the Rockets fell by a lousy point to Woodville, despite 17 points from Tayla Corrigan.

The Flames finished as the inaugural winners at the new ARC Campbelltown, triumphing over Forestville 68-61. Jessica Good starred with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

The Flames swept the Rockets 2-0 last season.

 

 

Southern Tigers (0-1) v South Adelaide Panthers (1-0)

The Southern Tigers will try to square their ledger at 1-1, when they take on the South Adelaide Panthers at Morphett Vale.

Last week, the Tigers were downed by a solitary bucket against Sturt, even though Mollie McKendrick registered a game-high 16 points.

The Panthers have already won half as many games as they managed all of last season, following their 65-50 home success against Centrals. Teonna Campbell shone for her new club with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

The Tigers swept the Panthers 2-0 last season.

 

 

West Adelaide Bearcats (0-1) v Woodville Warriors (1-0)

The West Adelaide Bearcats will look to avoid a 0-2 start, when they host the Woodville Warriors at Port Adelaide.

Last week, the Bearcats were stunned by Eastern in a high-scoring affair. The Bearcats finished with four double-figure scorers, led by Sky Langenbrinck’s 18 points.

Thanks to Ashley Claussen’s go-ahead shot with four seconds remaining, the Warriors snuck over the Rockets 68-67. Jennifer Monroe finished with a game-high 20 points.

The Bearcats swept the Warriors 2-0 last season.

 

Central District Lions (0-1) v Eastern Mavericks (1-0)

The Central District Lions will be attempting to protect their home court, when the Eastern Mavericks make their way to Starplex.

Last week, the Lions went down to South. Alisha Carlin picked up 18 points.

The Mavericks upset the Bearcats 92-83, suggesting they are a stronger unit than the one that went 5-16 in 2016. Alex Wilson and Kedeisha Kartinyeri finished as the league’s highest scorers for Round 1, racking up 32 and 24 points respectively.

The Mavericks swept the Lions 2-0 last season.
