Basketball SA Life Membership

An important aspect of the transition of community basketball operations from BASA to Basketball SA includes the recognition of the past BASA Life Members and setting a policy for future achievers.

BASA had several categories of Life Membership, which included Player, Referee, Coach, Manager and Scoretable (STOP) that were bestowed upon individuals that had exceeded 10 seasons or 300 games in BASA first class games.

BASA also offered Administration Life Membership for anyone with 10 years of continuous service in a BASA Board or Committee role and Association Life Membership for people who demonstrated an extraordinary service to basketball.

Basketball SA would like to provide the BASA Life Members with recognition regarding their status and acknowledge the important contribution those members made to the sport of basketball in SA. Basketball SA does not want the administrative difficulties suffered by BASA to take anything away from those that have served the sport for so many years.

Transitioning existing BASA Player, Coach, Referee, Manager and STOP Life Members

Basketball SA will transition the existing BASA Player, Referee, Coach, Manager, Administration and Score table Life Members from these categories into a new Basketball SA category called the "300 Club".

Members awarded the Basketball SA "300 Club" status will be recognised in the following manner:

·         A Basketball SA "300 Club" medal (not applicable for anyone transitioning from BASA).

·         A Basketball SA "300 Club" certificate of recognition (not applicable for anyone transitioning from BASA).

·         Basketball SA "300 Club" Pass.

·         Free stadium entry into Basketball SA district competitions (junior, senior and CABL).

Future eligibility into the Basketball SA "300 Club"

Excepting the transition of BASA Life Members, future eligibility into the Basketball SA "300 Club" can occur when the following occurs:

·         A Player plays at least 300 first class games.

·         A Coach coaches at least 300 first class games.

·         A Referee officiates at least 300 first class games.

·         A Manager manages at least 300 first class games.

·         A Scoretable person officiates at least 300 first class games.

·         A Statistician records statistics for at least 300 first class games.

First Class Games include the following:

o   State or National Championship Games

o   Official NBL or WNBL Season Games

o   Australian Basketball Association Games (for any SA based Club)

o   Basketball SA Metro League and/or State League Div 1 Games (this is recognised by the Commission as part of the elite pathway for the sport in SA).

Anyone who fits the eligibility criteria must apply or be nominated for the Basketball SA "300 Club". It is not the responsibility of Basketball SA to automatically induct a person into the "300 Club" upon them reaching the eligibility criteria. All nominations for the "300 Club" will need to be verified by the Competitions Committee and accepted by the Commission.

Administration Life Members

The previous BASA category of Administration Life Membership recognising 10 years of continuous service on a BASA Board or Committee will be discontinued, however as previously mentioned BASA Administration Life Members will be transitioned to the "300 Club".

Transitioning existing BASA Association Life Members

Current BASA Association Life Members will be immediately transitioned to Basketball SA Life Membership.

Basketball SA Life Members will be recognised in the following way:

·         Basketball SA Life Member Medal (does not apply to transitioning Life Members)

·         Basketball SA Life Member Certificate (does not apply to transitioning Life Members)

·         Basketball SA Life Member Pass.

·         Free stadium entry into Basketball SA district competitions (junior, senior and CABL).

·         Any other reward as may be deemed by the Commission from time to time.

Basketball SA deems the category of Life Membership as the highest honour that can be awarded by the Commission in recognition of those who have had an outstanding influence to the sport.

A person can be recognised by Life Membership in the future if the Commission or a Member Association (SA Country, SA Church, Basketball Adelaide, Rec Centres) nominates a person who has rendered distinguished or special service to basketball in South Australia. Nominations for Life Membership shall be tabled at an Annual General Meeting.

Past BASA Life Member Details

Unfortunately, we do not have contact details for many of the past BASA Life Members and therefore we are unable to provide any direct information or new passes to most of the people that would be recognised by the Basketball SA "300 Club" or new Life Membership category. Therefore, we seek your assistance to forward contact details (name, address, phone, mobile, email) to parnott@basketballsa.com.au so that we can forward an explanatory letter and new pass.

We have attached a list of past BASA Life Members for whom we are seeking contact details.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Mark Hubbard

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
