Rnd 6: Bearcats Women secure tight win over Warriors

By Jake Stoubos

West Adelaide 76 | Woodville Warriors 62

The West Adelaide women have secured a highly contested win against the Woodville Warriors this past Friday night.

Woodville kicked off the match incredibly strong, gaining early scoreboard pressure through their physicality and precision shooting.  Tavarsha Scott had a strong showing, scoring several points from turnovers and steals giving her team the 12 point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The speed of the game lifted quite dramatically in the second as both sides made their mark on the scoreboard due to the back and forth style of play. Despite this, Woodville still managed to retain a 13 point lead heading into half time due to their notable first quarter performance.

The second half saw a complete shift as West Adelaide built up a remarkable comeback. West took advantage of scoring points from bad turnovers, rebounds at both ends and free-throws. They completely dominated play and it wasn’t until eight minutes in that the warriors even scored a point.

The final quarter was much of the same as the third with the Bearcats continuing to move the ball around swiftly and dominate the court. To Woodville’s credit, they built up somewhat of a comeback halfway through but failed to maintain it as West took back control claiming victory 76-62 at the final whistle.

Tavarsha Scott was best on ground for Woodville with 20 points, 18 rebounds, while Teonna Campbell along with four of her teammates all scored above 10 points, with Tahlia Fejo acquiring 5 assists to her credit.

In the end it was West Adelaide’s solid team unity that saw them walk away with an impressive win on their home court.
