Angela a Class Above

Sturt Sabres point guard Angela Marino has been crowned the 2007 Halls medal winner.

But in a night of drama, her victory was not guaranteed until the final round of votes had been counted.

Along with Tracey Beatty, Marino was a favourite for the Halls medal, after leading the league in both points and assists, and helping her team to a minor premiership. After 16 of 18 rounds of votes had been counted, Marino led dark horse Nicole Romeo by three votes, but with Marino missing round 17 due to injury, and Sturt having a bye in round 18, Romeo had to poll just three votes the last two rounds to secure a likely victory. It was not to be however, as Romeo didn't receive a vote in either game.

Marino also won the player of the year award, as voted on by coaches, players and clubs.

17 year old Romeo received the Merv Harris medal for the best player under 21 years.
