A new direction for Basketball in SA

After extensive research and consultation with the basketball community the Basketball SA Commission is pleased to unveil its fresh new logo and Strategic Plan for community basketball.

Basketball SA was formed as the new community basketball peak body after the sale of the Adelaide 36ers, Adelaide Lightning and The Distinctive Homes Dome. This is the inaugural strategic plan for the new peak body, which reflects the feedback from the state basketball community outlined through focus groups, open forums, surveys and planning groups conducted over the past few months.

Basketball SA CEO Mark Hubbard commented:

"There are fundamental aspects of community basketball that haven't received due attention, but our new Strategic Plan has a clear and structured focus on identifying new ways to provide greater benefits to the sport and its participants. The methodology behind the plan was to keep it simple, realistic and fresh. We wanted to ensure that the plan encapsulated the wants and needs of the basketball community, but also recognized the long term goals for the sport in South Australia and nationally".

"Our theory behind the plan was also used for the development of our branding. The new logo is simple in design, but has a fresh and modern feel. The Basketball SA logo design will be emphasized on all Basketball SA products and it is our goal to see it adopted by some of our key associations and clubs, although we recognize this may take time".

The Basketball SA Strategic Plan focuses on several key areas that can be summarized by the Mission Statement:

To promote, develop and represent the sport of basketball in South Australia

By,

Increasing participation

Ensuring financial stability

Providing a cost effective environment

Transparent governance and leadership

Effective and open communication

Innovative programs and services

Building a cohesive basketball community

Ensuring access to suitable facilities

Basketball SA Chairman, Bruce Spangler stated:

"There has been a significant amount of progress made over the past several months to stabilize the sport in the metropolitan area and bring a number of people together in the state basketball community. We have already begun to implement positive change that is in line with our strategic goals, such as implementing regular and clear communication to key groups, reinvesting in basketball facilities, restructuring staff roles and building a sound financial base. I am very pleased with our progress thus far, but I realize we still have a long way to go."

Mark Hubbard stated:

"Basketball is already a popular sport in South Australia thanks to the passion and dedication of thousands of players and volunteers and we aim to build on this solid base by improving the products and services that we supply. There will be a lot of reviews conducted over the next 12-months with outcomes that are likely to promote change in a number of areas bringing them into line with our long term goals".

"We realize that at the moment we have undergone a lot of planning and the majority of our changes have been administrative, however we now look forward to rolling out new strategies that will show real benefit to the basketball community. I expect the next 12-months to be a very exciting and rewarding period for basketball in this state."

The Basketball SA Strategic Plan has been sent to all stakeholder groups and has been posted on the website at www.basketballsa.com.au. The new Basketball SA logo will be applied to all Basketball SA materials and facilities in the coming months and will have its first major interstate viewing on the state uniforms for the upcoming Under 16 and Under 18 National Championships in June and July.
