Women's Reviews - Round 5

Norwood Flames 86(N. Romeo 25, C. Stark 24, J. O'Malley 12)
Southern Tigers 80 (T. Beatty 20, N. Cooper 17, L. Cannon 16)

Norwood broke through for its first win of the season, on the back of 11 three pointers from Nicole Romeo and Carly Stark combined. The game started with a blistering 56 points in the first quarter and Southern led at the next two breaks, before a 28-18 fourth quarter secured the Flames' victory. Romeo also had 5 assists and 4 rebounds, while Tracey Beatty had 13 rebounds and 5 blocks.

West Adelaide Bearcats 66 (L. King 16, C. Smith 14, S. Woosnam 13)
South Adelaide Panthers 57(J. Browne 19, V. Kelson 9, J. Robbertsen 8)

South's unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of the powerful Bearcats, whose WNBL front court of Sam Woosnam, Cherie Smith and Lauren King combined for 43 points and

20 rebounds, and kept Kerrin Truslove to 8 points. South stepped up their defence in the second quarter, keeping West to just 6 points, but the Bearcats outscored the Panthers 42-28 in the second half.

North Adelaide Rockets 102 (E. Lorenzini 27, J. Piwanski 17, L. Mansfield 12)
Woodville Warriors 56 (J. Barratt 18, B. Sidebottom 15, V. Michael 7)

Woodville was competitive in the first quarter, but allowed the Rockets to score 61 points in the middle two quarters. Erin Lorenzini hit 3 three pointers in her 27, and Tania Dhu again did what was necessary, with 5 steals, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Jodie Barratt was again the backbone for the Warriors, with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Sturt Sabres 58 (H. Bowley 22, C. Nixon 11, B. Bowley 10)
Forestville Eagles 43 (D. Ranford 11, N. Martin 10, K. Newbold)

A 2-2 scoreline with 2 minutes left in the first quarter didn't live up to pre-game hyperbolae such as "game of the round" and "grand final rematch", but Sturt's defence in the absence of Angela Marino was impressive, keeping Forestville to 7 points in each of the first and third quarters. Monique Bowley, Hannah Bowley and Caroline Nixon all rebounded well for Sturt, as did Kylie Newbold for Forestville.
