Women's Reviews - Round 2

Kerrin Truslove

Eastern Mavericks 70 (D. Wilcox 15, A. Williams 13, S. Bayley 12)
Woodville Warriors 50 (J. Barratt 13, B. Sidebottom 12, V. Michael 6)

As in last week's game against Forestville, Eastern won this game in the first quarter, racing to a 23-4 lead at quarter time. Woodville kept pace for the rest of the game, but the damage was done. Amanda Williams led most statistical categories for Eastern, with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and an impressive 8 steals. For Woodville, Brooke Sidebottom had 12 rebounds.

Sturt Sabres 75 (A. Marino 25, M. Bowley 21, H. Bowley 8)
West Adelaide Bearcats 73 (S. Woosnam 20, L. King 18, C. Smith 11)

With both teams boasting current and former WNBL talent, this game was tight all the way. Sturt led by 3 at the first break, West clawed back to lead by 4 at half time and 2 at three quarter time, but Sturt just managed to get over the line in the last quarter. The Bearcats Lightning front court of Sam Woosnam, Lauren King and Cherie Smith were well matched by Monique Bowley and Hannah Bowley, who had 16 rebounds between them.

Southern Tigers 77 (T. Beatty 20, L. Cannon 15)
North Adelaide Rockets 76 (J. Piwanski 16, E. Wright 13, J. Peris 11)

For the second week in a row, North were involved in a heart stopper. The Rockets were up 10 points early, doing an excellent job of preventing Tracey Beatty from getting good looks at the basket. The Tigers recovered to a four point deficit at half time on the back of 6 consecutive points from Kate Hilton, then Beatty exploded for 16 points in the second half. Leah Cannon hit two foul shots in the last 7 seconds to seal the win.

South Adelaide Panthers 71 (J. Browne 19, V. Kelson 18, K. Truslove 16)
Forestville Eagles 56 (K. Malpass 18, K. Newbold 16, K. Ireland 5)

Forestville entered this game without Dee Ranford, who contributed 27 points in last week's lost to Eastern, while South were playing their first game for the season, and their first with new centre Kerrin Truslove. The game was evenly matched early, but a 22-9 second quarter in South's favour set up a 17 point half time lead which the Eagles could not reel in. Vikki Kelson finished with 14 rebounds to go with her 18 points, while Kylie Newbold had 7 rebounds.
