Mavs Push Panthers Out of Finals
South Adelaide Panthers (73) lost to Eastern Mavericks (87)
In the upset of the round the Eastern Mavericks won their third game of the season officially eliminating the South Adelaide Panthers from this years finals series.
The Panthers were slow off the blocks at Marion on Saturday night, they struggled to make a shot in the first period sinking just 7 from 20 attempts for the quarter. The Mavericks on the other hand were on a roll sharing the baskets around, Curtis Scipio popped a pair of handy threes and the Mavs went in to the first break 13 points up.
South found their feet in the second period and held the game steady scoring 19 points to the Mavericks 21 but it was the third quarter where the Panthers came alive. Shane Boal and Jordan Robinson did most of the damage, unrelentingly chasing the deficit until finally leveling the score with a minute and half left in the period. The lead flipped twice before evening up at 62 points each at the final break.
The Panthers faded away in the final ten minutes while the Mavericks' Curtis Scipio and Thomas Giles tore it up in a thrilling display. Scipio dropped a hot 3 pointer in the midst of a 7 point run while Giles thumped a dunk in with 30 seconds to go, a final swish from Scipio sealed the deal and gave the Mavs a 14 point win.
