Sabres Surge in The Port
West Adelaide Bearcats (60) lost to Sturt Sabres (86)
After losing to the Sabres at the weekend, the West Adelaide Bearcats have dropped to 7th and are a game behind the Eagles and and the Warriors with two weeks left before finals.
The Bearcats started strong in the first quarter scoring 7 points before the Sabres got on the board. Sturt pushed back leveling the scores half way through the quarter, they took the lead for two short minutes before West's Sky Langenbrink fought back putting up 5 shots in the last 2 minutes and putting her team 3 points in front at the first break.
The second period was the toughest of the night as both sides traded the lead and scores were level at the half time break. Natalie Novasel's experience was on display for Sturt in the third quarter as she led her team on the attack at the defensive end pulling down rebound after rebound. Gutsy shooting from Angela Marino including 2 threes at the other end helped the Sabres accelerate while the Bearcats scoring dried up.
Sturt were 15 points up as the final stanza began and despite some bold moves in terms of steals and assists, the Bearcat's shots just wouldn't go in while the Sabres train just kept rolling. Sturt came home 26 points up, successfully defending their number 2 spot on the ladder for another week.
