Norwood Women Back to Winning Ways

Southern Tigers (58) lost to Norwood Flames (92)

After going down in their first game since 2012, the Norwood Flames hit back to their winning form on Saturday night, defeating the Southern Tigers by 34 points at Morphett Vale Stadium.

Cara Boothey and Amy Lewis got the Flames off to a great start offensively, however the Tigers were being suffocated at their end of the floor by the Norwood defence, only converting 6 points for the quarter. Norwood’s lead was out to 22 points at the first break.

And it didn’t take long for the Flames to extend that lead even more, opening up a 30-point gap early in the second quarter. Jordan Walker-Roberts made herself known on the court, scoring 8 points for the Flames, while Shayde Quintrell inspired the Tigers, getting them back into the groove of things with a motivating 12-point quarter.

But if the differences between the top side and eighth side on the table hadn’t shown just yet, they were evident in the third quarter. Whenever Southern looked to get on a roll, Norwood made sure to shut it down immediately. The Flames showed their superiority through Amy Lewis, playing an unbelievable 15-point quarter to push their lead out to 31 at the final break.

The cruise to the finish line was all that was required for the Flames, claiming the win by 34 points (58-92) and registering their tenth win of the season. Norwood’s 40 points to 4 from turnovers told the story for the night, as they managed to steal from Southern hands on 30 occasions.

Lewis finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, alongside teammate Walker-Roberts, who finished with 18 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Jessica Good managed a double-double, completing 14 points and 13 rebounds on the night. While Quintrell doubled up as well for the Tigers, finishing with 20 points, 12 rebounds, plus 5 blocks.
