Warrior Men At The Top Of The Table

Southern Tigers (52) lost to Woodville Warriors (75)

The Woodville Warriors have hung on to top spot for another week after defeating the Southern Tigers by 23 points on Saturday night.

With the Bearcats breathing down their neck at the top of the ladder, the Warriors came to Morphett Vale with winning on their mind. It was a slow start with both teams taking a while to break the ice and start scoring. An unsettled opening period saw fouls emerging from some scrappy early jostling before they settled down and sunk their teeth into the game.

Southern set the pace and had a good run into the first break leading by 6 points but the Warriors re-grouped and assessed their options and kept the Tigers guessing and chasing for the rest of the night as they rotated through their players, changing it up whenever Southern found a foothold. The Warriors took the lead almost straight after the first break and never gave it back.

Southern did well to limit Woodvilles' "danger man", Alexander Starling, to 17 points but the depth in the Warriors side means trying to defend them at the moment is like trying to wrestle an octopus, there is always another tentacle coming at you or in this case men in green and gold.

Daniel Sims had a good week with 16 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Luke Stanbridge is having a career year and made a strong contribution to Woodville's win with 14 points, 9 rebounds.

Southerns' Michael Florance top scored with 23 points and Codey Ellison played had a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ellison also led his team in rebounds, blocks, assists and steals making him a very valuable asset for the Tigers in this game.

Top Scorers Southern

Codey Ellison 13
Craig Catford 6
Top Scorers Woodville
