Warriors Team Work Prevails

Woodville Warriors (101) defeated Sturt Sabres (76)

Woodville's Darren Ng scored 31 points to lead the Warriors to a 25 point victory over visiting Sturt Sabres at St Clair on Saturday night.

Ng was on fire from tip off, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, including two triples, while his teammates fed off his hot hand to give Woodville a 25-9 advantage halfway through the opening stanza.

Sturt fought back and closed the gap to just 2 points as the game closed in on half-time and were down by 6 at the main break. The Sabres would get no closer as they traded baskets with the Warriors during most of the third quarter, the lead fluctuating between 8 and 10 points until Ng, Alex Starling and Luke Stanbridge all contributed to push the lead to 14 with one quarter to play.

Woodville continued their flawless offensive execution in the fourth and pushed the lead even further out of reach for the visitors.

Ng's 31 led all scorers. Starling was everywhere on offence and defence, pulling down rebounds and showing off his aerial skills with a huge dunk in the second quarter that sent the crowd into a frenzy. He finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Stanbridge was a solid contributor once again, he added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Tim Klaosen (22 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists) and Dexter Moore (21 points) led the way for Sturt but needed others to put some points on the board if they were to have a hope of defeating Woodville. Shane Breheny, with 12 points, was the only other Sabre to reach double figures.
