Woodville Win in a Close Encounter with the Eagles

The Woodville Warriors were victorious by six points over the Forestville Eagles at Wayville.

The clash between second and third on the ladder was a tight, exciting one that went right down to the wire.

Both teams had a strong first quarter but the Eagles had a two point lead a quarter time. The two teams were equal in many of the key statistical areas during the first quarter, including rebounds, assists and steals. The Eagles had one more turnover than the Warriors (5-4). The closeness in the statistics reflected the tight contest on court.

The Warriors had a stronger second quarter and started to show some dominance. They outscored the Eagles by seven points, taking a five point lead into half time. During the second quarter, Woodville were able to get on top of those key statistical areas, rebounds in particular (14-5).

The third quarter was another close quarter, with both teams scoring 18 points so the Warriors retained their five point lead. While the Warriors were still dominant in the rebound count, the Eagles didn’t have a single turnover for the quarter, which kept them in the game.

The last quarter was also close and the Warriors outscored the Eagles by only one point to take the final margin to six points.

Aaron Wyatt was one of the best for the Warriors, scoring a team high of 19 points along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Darren Ng and Luke Stanbridge had 18 points each for Woodville. Ng also had seven rebounds and six assists, while Stanbridge had three rebounds and two assists.

Jake Rios was the highest scorer of the night with 24 points, including five three pointers.

Steve Pilkington had a game high of 14 rebounds to go with ten points and a steal for the Warriors.

Neil Mottram and Trent Fildes scored 12 and ten points respectively for the Eagles. Both players also had five rebounds, while Fildes had three assists.

Adam Doyle, Brad Gerlach and Kane Oakley all had nine points. Doyle also had four assists, four steals and a rebound. Gerlach had seven rebounds, seven assists and a steal. Oakley had four rebounds and a steal.

The Warriors fought out a tough, close game to win by six points in a strong win away from home. Woodville will play the Southern Tigers in round 18, while Forestville will play Norwood.
