Eagles Win in a Close Battle with the Tigers

Forestville edged out the Southern Tigers in a close and exciting game, with the final margin of 12 points in the Eagles’ favour.

Even though it was a close game, the Eagles were in the lead for 35 minutes, while the Tigers were only in front for four minutes. The lead changed four times and was tied on three occasions.

The first quarter was very even and the only difference in the key statistical areas was the seven point lead the Eagles had at quarter time. The closeness continued in the second quarter but the Tigers outscored Forestville by seven points, resulting in level scores at half time.

Forestville came out from the half time break with gusto and was the dominant team in the third quarter. They outscored the Tigers (22-12) to take a handy ten point lead into the final break. The Eagles were also on top in stats such as rebounds (12-5), assists (3-0) and steals (4-1).

The final quarter was close again but the ten point lead and outscoring the Tigers by two points helped the Eagles to get over the line as 12 point winners. The dominance that Forestville showed in the third was matched. The Tigers pressured the Eagles, with three steals to none and only two turnovers to the Eagles’ five.

Adam Doyle was the highest scorer on court with 28 points and was one of the best for the Eagles. He also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Doyle also played full game time.

Eagle Adam Gibson was relatively quiet on the scoreboard with only seven points, however he was very strong defensively with nine rebounds and five steals. He also had five assists to his name.

Like Doyle, Samuel McDaniel played full game time for the Southern Tigers, with the youngster showing his endurance and athleticism. He finished the night with ten points, ten rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Michael Florance was the highest scorer for the Tigers, ending the night with 23 points, to go with six rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Tiger Scott O’Connor had a game high of eight assists. He finished his night with five points, four rebounds and a steal.

In the dying seconds of the third, Tiger Jacob Aciek Mayen was fouled out. Despite missing the entire last quarter, Mayen had six rebounds, five points and two steals.

The Eagles benefitted from Neil Mottram’s height and his eight rebounds. He also scored 13 points and had two steals.

The two teams had less than a days break before their next match, with both teams playing on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles travelled up to the Hills to play the Eastern Mavericks, while the Southern Tigers played the North Adelaide Rockets at home.
