Lady Bearcats Celebrate Triple Century

The Captain

Alice Gee started playing basketball for West Adelaide in 1996 in U10’s. She represented SA at the Pacific School Games, is a SASI graduate and State Representative in 2004,5 and 6. She was proud to be presented with the Dora Mudge award around this time.

Alice also coached at the club for 6 years with U12, 14 and 18 age groups going to the Classics twice with U12 and once with U18.

Starting work as a teacher has made it difficult to fit the coaching in alongside CABL commitments.

Alice started in the ABA team in 2007 – a premiership year so a great time to start! This season she was named co-captain of the CABL team and has taken the extra responsibility in her stride.

Alice is a pretty laid back character, enjoying old music like Michael Jackson and fuelling up on pasta dishes!

She lists her favourite coach as Carlee Patterson who was U18 coach and assistant CABL coach when the Lady Bearcats won the premiership. Trudie Holland is Alice’s most influential coach.

Keep shooting Alice!

The Engine Room

Amy Porter also began playing for West in U10’s – so I wonder just how many games she and Alice have played together over all those years!!!

She was a State Rep in 2004 and a SASI scholarship holder. No coincidence she also won the Dora Mudge award.

Amy coached U14’s for 2 years and U12 boys in 2011 when she was awarded the boy’s coaching award.

Once again full time work as a nurse has curtailed Amy’s coaching commitments.

Amy also started in the CABL team in the premiership year of 2007.

Amy is a cheerful character and no doubt this has helped her fight back from two knee reconstructions.

Amy feels lucky to have had many good coaches in her years at West but lists her favourites as Sarah Nobbs in U/12 and Carlee Patterson in U/16 and U/18.

Carlee has obviously had a big influence on the current crop of ABA players at West Adelaide.

Keep hustling Amy!!

The Athlete

Ashlea Vordermaier began playing with West Adelaide as a second year U12. She was a SASI scholarship holder in U18’s and also won the Dora Mudge award at the club. Although Ash did not make any state teams she was invited out to train with the Lightning squad for a couple of pre-seasons.

Ash began playing CABL in 2008 and has been a regular starter for the team for several seasons. She lists the people most influential in her basketball career as Sam Woosnam and Vicki Valk.

Ash’s speed and athleticism are outstanding and led to her being named as league MVP in her final year of U23s.

Ash is a quiet achiever and likes nothing better than going for a run, chilling to triple J or eating some Vietnamese food. She works as a radiographer and is training in ultrasound as well so that keeps her busy away from the court.

Keep running Ash!!
