Pilkington Dominates, Ng Finds Touch as Warriors Conquer

Steve Pilkington started with an ‘and one’, finished with a dunk and was a workhorse in between as the Woodville Warriors dismantled Forestville 83-67 at St Clair.

Trailing 9-16, the Eagles lost Jake Rios for the night, who hobbled off with what appeared to be an ankle injury. Without the man who gets them over 20 points a game, too much fell on the shoulders of up and coming star Point Guard Adam Doyle.

Warriors Point Guards Jarrod Graves and Cameron Wilson did an excellent job of forcing the Eagles into congested drives and difficult shots, while at the other end, Ng needed only a split second to get off his threes and even joined Pilkington and garbage man Luke Stanbridge with a tip-in.

Despite star Aaron Wyatt in foul trouble, the Warriors dominated both the first and second quarters and took a 55-30 lead into half-time.

The Warriors had not lost a single third quarter in 2013, but some sharp-shooting from Doyle (14 third quarter points) changed that fact, even though the home side still appeared well and truly in control.

The ejection of Eagles Coach Andy Simons seemed to fuel the visitors, who could have been as close as 10 had Bradley Hayden knocked down an open shot.

However, another ‘and one’ from Pilkington with 4.41 left ensured the Warriors would leave the centre victorious.

The only blemish for the Warriors was an injury to Ng inside the final three minutes.

Pilkington (22 points, 9 rebounds) was the game’s dominant player. Always a presence on the court, he provided the key players when it mattered most.

Ng broke out of a shooting slump by scoring 21 of his 27 points in the first half. He shot 5/8 from downtown in the opening 20 minutes.

Doyle scored 26 points, but only registered a solitary assist, with the likes of Bradley Hayden (11 points, 4/18 FG) and Brad Gerlach (6 points, 3/11 FG, 6 turnovers) struggling.

Gerlach did at least lead the team in rebounds (8) and assists (6).

The 6-2 Warriors visit the Tigers (4-4) next week, while the Eagles (5-3) are at home to Norwood.
