Mavericks Women Continue Impressive Form

The Eastern Mavericks Women’s victory over South Adelaide by 39 points at Marion on Saturday night ensures they remain within the top 3 of the premiership ladder.

After reaching the 100 point mark for the first time in nine years last week, momentum was still with the Mavericks, running out with the game from the start.

Tess Madgen again starred for her side finishing the game one assist away from a triple double with 27 points, 18 rebounds and 9 assists as she continues to lead the Central ABL league in these respective areas.

Eastern Mavericks Coach Nathan Jones said he was pleased with the way his team was able to apply what they have practiced in theory.

“We were really happy with our girls, everything that we identified that needed to happen; who we needed to defend, how we needed to play, was executed beautifully,” Jones said.

“We were really, really impressed.”

South Adelaide looked tired as they struggled to create scoring opportunities within the 24-second limit.

The Panthers’ defensive efforts were also lack luster, as the Mavericks kept ripping down offensive rebounds and scoring off these efforts.

After playing her 150th game two weeks ago, Karen Rokicinski tried to lift her team, showing great leadership but the Mavericks’ combination of efforts by Madgen, Alex Wilson and Shannon Tarran, and quick movement by Tennille Searl were far too strong.

Coach Jones also was impressed with these players’ efforts and the team’s statistics for the game.

“Not one of their players got to double figures and we had 22 offensive boards,” he said.

“Every single one of our players had an offensive board except one so that’s great hard work stuff.

“We had a couple of our players that have been just gradually finding confidence who came out today too, so we are really happy with our game.”

While South will continue the search for their first win of the 2013 season, the Mavericks are shaping up to be a serious contender for the title.
