Lady Flames start Double Header on a High

Norwood continued their scorching start to the season by crushing Woodville at Mars, Jess Foley doing the damage when it mattered.

Foley had 11 points and 5 assist in the first half, helping the Flames to an unassailable 48-17 half time lead.

With Woodville’s lineup boasting a number of former Flames, there seemed to be more on the line than an average game, but it mattered little as the Warriors were unable to provide any resistance against the talented Norwood outfit.

Simon Pritchard was able to sub freely from early in the game, with 9 Norwood players seeing action in the first quarter and the 10th before half time.

Woodville battled hard and managed to pull down 14 offensive rebounds. However Norwood’s stifling defence made it impossible for Woodville to capitalize, forcing errant passes and shot clock violations.

Katherine Perkas had a purple patch in the 2nd quarter, taking four strong drives, the first to break a scoring drought, and the fourth resulting in a trip to the foul line.

However, every Norwood possession seemed to finish with a layup or open jump shot. In the first half, it was Foley and Lil Keane hitting jump shots on transition. Later on, it was Jess Good getting wide open on a back cut. The Flames seemed to have no weak link, with all contributing and none scoring more than 15.

Tess Keenan was Woodville’s best, her running hook early in the second quarter a highlight. Keenan finished with 14 points, 50%, and drew 7 fouls.

For Norwood, Jess Good had a near perfect shooting night, hitting 4 for 5 from the field and 6 for 6 from the line. Good and Jordan Walker Roberts both scored 14, but a relatively even spread of minutes puts Norwood in good stead for their assault on North the following night.

Norwood Flames 87 (Jordan Walker-Roberts 14, Jess Good 14, Cara Boothey 10) d
Woodville Warriors 52 (Tess Keenan 14, Jessica Koch 10, Katherine Perkas 8)
